BJJ Notes review: what it costs and what its users say

BJJ Notes is a training journal for jiu-jitsu, rated 4.75 from 178 ratings on the US App Store and 4.79 from 823 ratings, 10K+ downloads on Google Play. Here is what it costs, what its users report, and when Rollbook suits you better.

We make Rollbook, a competing app. We haven't used BJJ Notes for our own training: this review is built from its store listings, its prices and 41 written reviews, checked October 21, 2026. How we made this page

The short answer

Pick BJJ Notes if you want stats for every roll: it logs submissions, sweeps, takedowns, passes and taps, and shows Subs per Roll and Taps per Roll. Pick it too if your coach already runs a group in its free Coach Mode, or if a long ratings record matters to you.

Pick Rollbook if you want unlimited logging and history for free, with cloud sync and a free backup and CSV export, or if price matters. Rollbook is free; its optional Supporter plans cost $1.99 a month, $14.99 a year or $49.99 lifetime, against $4.99, $39.00 and $149.00 for BJJ Notes Pro.

What BJJ Notes is

BJJ Notes is a training journal for jiu-jitsu and grappling by Felipe Ribas Forbeck, first released in December 2023. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android; we found no web version.

Its App Store listing is about logging rolls in detail: submissions, sweeps, takedowns, guard passes and taps, with Subs per Roll and Taps per Roll, weekly recaps, streaks and goals. Its Google Play listing adds AI-powered insights, monthly team leaderboards, a belt journey with photos, injury tracking, and game plans and focus plans.

Coaches can use it for free: Coach Mode takes attendance and shares classes with a group, according to bjjnotes.app.

What users say

We read all 21 written reviews of BJJ Notes in seven App Store storefronts and the 20 reviews Google Play shows on its US listing, and counted what they praise and criticize. One review is one person, and written reviews lean to the extremes.

Counted from 21 written App Store reviews from seven storefronts (January 2024 to October 2026), and the 20 reviews Google Play shows on its US listing, which Google picks (December 2023 to July 2026).

(Google Play, US, November 2025)
“It helps me quickly log and track sessions in a very detailed way, which I need to keep myself accountable…”

How we made this review

We haven't used BJJ Notes for our own training. This review is built from public data: its App Store and Google Play listings, its US in-app prices, its website and what its users wrote.

On October 21, 2026 we read the US App Store listing and its in-app purchase list, the Google Play listing in US English, bjjnotes.app, and Apple's review feed for seven storefronts: the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Brazil.

The samples are the 21 written App Store reviews (January 2024 to October 2026) and the 20 reviews Google Play shows (December 2023 to July 2026). We read every one and sorted them into themes by hand; a review counts toward a theme only if it says that thing.

The limits: written reviews are a few percent of all ratings and lean to the extremes, Google picks the reviews Play shows, and one review is one person. The averages are Apple's and Google's, to two decimals; the store pages round them to one.
