BJJ in Orange

The city of Orange is the historical heart of OC's BJJ scene, carrying 7 academies and several foundational names that predate the current franchise era. OC Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was founded in 1994 — one of the first dedicated BJJ academies in all of Southern California — and remains a pillar of the traditional Carlson lineage in the region.

Mamute Jiu Jitsu is led by Bruno "Mamute" Paulista, who trains under a rare dual Gracie / Fadda lineage — a distinctively different family tree from the mainstream Carlson or Humaita branches. Tomacelli Academy runs a Joe Moreira lineage program with Marco Ruas on staff — another historically significant SoCal name. Point of Impact MMA, TM Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy, Hybrid Academy, and La Union Jiu Jitsu & Muay Thai fill out the local roster with a range of competition and recreational options.
