Day-by-Day Schedule

IBJJF released the pre-schedule on August 26, 2026. It tells you which day your belt and age division competes; exact start times arrive with the final schedule on January 12, and IBJJF asks athletes to be ready to compete at any time on their listed day.

Most groups are spread across two or more days, so wait for the final schedule before you book a short trip. Age divisions go by birth year: adults were born in 2009 or earlier, Master 1 in 1997 or earlier, up to Master 7 (1966 or earlier).

Registration, Prices and Membership

Registration runs through IBJJF's athlete system and is priced in US dollars:

PriceValid until
$140October 4, 2026 (ended)
$173November 15, 2026
$186January 3, 2027 (registration deadline)

A few rules to know before you pay:

  • Membership first. You need an active IBJJF membership, valid through January 23, 2027, under your current belt and academy, and your academy has to be registered with IBJJF. Membership starts at $45 a year for new members, $40 to renew and $30 for minors, and it is fully digital. Sort it out before the December 23 affiliation deadline.
  • Unpaid is unregistered. A pending registration doesn't hold a spot, and IBJJF can close registration as soon as the event is full. This season's European No-Gi closed early for exactly that reason.
  • Refunds are narrow. The fee is refundable only within 48 hours of purchase. After that you can ask to be removed from the brackets by the January 4 correction deadline, but you won't get the money back. Athletes alone in their division can withdraw for a full refund on Checkday (January 8, by 5 PM).
  • Book travel after you register. IBJJF recommends it on the event page.
  • Two per team per bracket. If your academy has more than two athletes in one division, your professor has to change the registrations before the professor correction period ends.

Black Belts: 40 Ranking Points and Two Gis

Adult black belts need 40 IBJJF ranking points to register, the same as for Pans and Brasileiro (Worlds needs 95). Former black belt World Champions (gi or no-gi) and black belts who won an adult brown belt division at the previous season's Worlds (gi or no-gi) are exempt (IBJJF ranking information). Master black belts don't need points.

Points are placing value × championship weight × season weight. A weight-division gold is worth 9 points, silver 3 and bronze 1 (open class: 13.5, 4.5 and 1.5). An International Open has a weight of 1; Europeans, Pans and Brasileiro 4; Worlds 7. Results from the 2026-27 season count three times, 2025-26 twice and 2024-25 once, so a single Open gold this season (9 × 1 × 3 = 27 points) gets you most of the way. Our ranking points guide covers the details.

Black belt logistics from the event page:

  • Bring one royal blue gi and one white gi. Both are needed for quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
  • Men: brackets of nine or more start Friday, January 22; quarterfinals, semifinals and finals run on Saturday. If your first match isn't until Saturday, you can weigh in on Friday between 10 AM and 5 PM.
  • Women: brackets run through the semifinals on Friday; the finals are on Saturday.
  • Open class: every adult black belt can enter. Its registration deadline is posted with the schedule, and a no-show in the open class also disqualifies you from your weight division.
  • Coaching: only coaches with a valid IBJJF black belt membership get into the coaching area, and memberships can't be renewed at the venue.

Weigh-Ins and Weight Classes

The Europeans weighs in kilograms, with your gi on. You get one attempt, immediately before your first match. If you're over the limit for the division you registered in, you're disqualified, and you can't switch divisions on the day (IBJJF weigh-in rules).

Middle82.3 kg69.0 kg
Medium-Heavy88.3 kg74.0 kg
Heavy94.3 kg79.3 kg
Super-Heavy100.5 kgNo limit
Ultra-HeavyNo limit—

These are maximum weights with the gi, from IBJJF's kilogram chart. For pound conversions and juvenile limits, see our IBJJF weight classes guide.

Other competition-day rules:

  • Carry an official government photo ID or your IBJJF membership card. Officials check it before every match.
  • Be inside the venue and in the bullpen at least one hour before your division's estimated start time, and watch the bullpen screens: estimated times can move either way.
  • Athletes can be tested (blood and/or urine) for anything on the WADA Prohibited List.

Open Class for Colored Belts and Masters

Outside adult black belt, only athletes who finish first, second or third in their weight division can enter the open class, and they register at the open class table within 15 minutes of receiving their medal. White belts have no open class. Juvenile blue and purple belts get two: Open Class Light (rooster to light) and Open Class Heavy (middle to ultra-heavy).

Spectators and How to Watch

Entry is free for spectators, a long-standing Europeans tradition. FloGrappling puts the venue's main hall at 2,100 seats and a capacity of up to 3,500, depending on the setup. Signs, flags, food, pets and professional cameras are not allowed inside, and live-streaming matches to social media is banned.

At home, IBJJF's event page carries the FloGrappling logo, and Flo streamed the 2026 edition live on FloGrappling and the FloSports app, starting at 4:30 a.m. Eastern on the first day (Flo's 2026 viewing guide). FloGrappling is a paid subscription. Check Flo's event page for 2027 start times once IBJJF releases the final schedule.

Getting There and Training in Lisbon

Odivelas is its own municipality on Lisbon's northern edge, and it has a station at the northern end of the Lisbon Metro's Yellow Line (Linha Amarela). That makes it easy to stay in Lisbon and ride out each day; plan the last stretch from the station to Alameda do Porto Pinheiro on a map app. Lisbon Airport is the natural arrival point.

The Lisbon area is the event's traditional home. According to FloGrappling, Lisbon hosted the first 17 editions, starting in 2004. After stops in Rome (2022) and Paris (2023 and 2024), the championship returned in 2025 with a record of more than 6,000 entries.

Arriving early, or staying between a masters division and the black belt finals? The Rollbook gym directory lists academies in Odivelas and Lisbon. Message ahead about open mats and drop-in fees during event week. Food isn't allowed inside the venue, so plan your meals around your division.

Last Year's Europeans in Brief

The 2026 edition ran January 15-24 at the same venue. Gabi Pessanha won her fifth straight European open class title, Sarah Galvão won light in her black belt European debut, Tainan Dalpra took his fourth European title, and Alliance (men) and Atos (women) won the team races. What comes after Odivelas? IBJJF hasn't published 2027 dates for Pans, Brasileiro or Worlds yet. Our IBJJF 2027 calendar lists every date confirmed so far.
